WCCM Benedictine Oblates are encouraged to read a designated portion of the Rule daily, and to write a brief, personal response. I hope that this blog will support our Oblate community in this practice. Please, keep blog entries brief and in a first-person ("I") voice. Refrain from discussing, offering an opinion, or commenting on other entries. Simply consider how a particular section of the Rule is speaking to you in your present circumstances.

Chapter 22: Sleeping arrangements for the community
This chapter describes a striking image for me today. It is the light burning in the dark room revealing the quiet mutual encouragement of each member as they rise from sleep for the “Work of God”. In the meditation community, I am quietly encouraged by each member to persevere in my meditation practice, to be attentive to the word, the mantra, “burning” in my heart, and, like the quiet light in the “dark room” to become aware that the “Work of God” is discovering and uncovering the life of God within me and in others.
Keep my awake, Abba! Awake to you here within me and within everyone I meet today, spiritually awake, conscious of my contact with you. That’s how anyone truly in love behaves toward his Beloved.
