WCCM Benedictine Oblates are encouraged to read a designated portion of the Rule daily, and to write a brief, personal response. I hope that this blog will support our Oblate community in this practice. Please, keep blog entries brief and in a first-person ("I") voice. Refrain from discussing, offering an opinion, or commenting on other entries. Simply consider how a particular section of the Rule is speaking to you in your present circumstances.
“Those who have been sent on a journey are not to omit the prescribed hours but to observe them as best they can, not neglecting their measure of service.” Observing the prescribed hours for meditation and praying the divine office as best I can when I am away from my secure, private and reserved space at home is a giving up of control, the control that home and regular hours have for me.
But wait a moment— is not that holy, private space within me, wherever I am? I believe that the kingdom of God is within me. It is in those times away from home that the faith I have that God is present in me is tested. The key to being mindful of that Holy Presence, within and without, is the mantra. I cling to it and it clings to me.
