Chapter 72: The good spirit which should inspire monastic life

But equally there is a good spirit which frees us from evil ways and brings us closer to God and eternal life.
(From Ch. 72 of Saint Benedict's Rule, trans. by Patrick Barry OSB, 1997.)

I find the good spirit in silence, stillness, and simplicity, in saying my mantra with fidelity.

  1. The "good" zeal or spirit that inspires the Benedictine life whether lay or monastic, and that inspires the Christian Community of Meditators is the encouragement to love God and to keep us from being conformed to the world's values. We do that for each other in community by giving each other strength through our meditation practices and prayer either alone and/or together in small groups.
