Chapter 7: The value of humility (paragraph 9)
The third step of humility is to submit oneself out of love of God to whatever obedience under a superior may require of us; it is the example of the Lord himself that we follow in this way, as we know from St Paul's words: he was made obedient even unto death. Meditation is a practice in obedience, with nothing to prove.
“The third step of humility is to submit oneself out of love of God to whatever obedience under a superior may require of us...”. Francis of Assisi, following Benedict, made every one of your creatures he met his Superior, for love of you and in imitation of you, Abba. He called himself a “lesser”, that is, a “minor” friar. Teach me how to rejoice to become an obedient listener, a loving minor, to everyone I meet today.
