WCCM Benedictine Oblates are encouraged to read a designated portion of the Rule daily, and to write a brief, personal response. I hope that this blog will support our Oblate community in this practice. Please, keep blog entries brief and in a first-person ("I") voice. Chapter 18: The order for reciting the psalms (paragraphs 4-6)

After all, we read that our holy Fathers had the energy to fulfil in one single day what we in our lukewarm devotion only aspire to complete in a whole week. (From para. 6 of Ch. 18 of Saint Benedict's Rule, trans. by Patrick Barry, OSB, 1997.)

The fire of the living God can enlighten even my lukewarm devotion, and transform me.

“The Lord says this: I am now going to open your graves; I mean to raise you from your graves, my people, and lead you back to the soil of Israel. And you will know that I am the Lord when I open your graves and raise you from your graves, my people.”(Ezekiel 37: 12, from Lauds today). I give up my life daily, Lord. Your grace moves me out of and beyond the grave where yesterday lies; you raise me to new life. Through faith, every day, when I consciously live it with you, becomes a brand new day, a never-before-experienced adventure, and just because we are living it together.
